APHL team assists LIMS TWG to refine LIMS concept

The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) sent a team of facilitators to assist the National LIMS TWG based at the Central Public Health Laboratories (CPHL) to refine their design and road-map for a national LIMS. At a 9-day’s retreat from 16th – 24th March 2015 at the Sunset Hotel in Jinja, facilitators helped the team refine objectives, conceptualization of an LIS an engaged in fruitful discussion of the way forward. EAPHLN Uganda was represented by the ICT Specialist, Thomas Alinaitwe and the M & E Specialist, Dr. Simeon Kalyesubula-Kibuuka.

EAPHLN-Uganda has installed the Basic Laboratory Information System (BLIS) at 3 of their 5 satellite laboratory sites as a proof of the concept of electronic LIS. The CPHL intends to install the BLIS at an additional 10 facilities before considering a nation-wide roll-out.
